Donald Edward Knott

Donald Edward Knott, 69, of Hollywood, MD, passed away on February 4, 2022, in Solomons, MD. He was born on June 27, 1952 in Leonardtown, MD, and was the loving son of the late Bernardine Pilkerton Knott and Joseph Edward Knott. Donald is survived by his sister Karen Drury of Hollywood, MD, niece Wendy Drury Klink (Clint) of Yorktown, VA, nephew Robert Aaron Drury (Jessica) of Mechanicsville, MD, and great nephew Wyatt Christopher Drury of Mechanicsville, MD. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Edward Knott, Jr.

Donald was a lifelong St. Mary’s County resident, and attended St. John’s Catholic School and received his GED. He graduated from the College of Southern Maryland (formerly Charles County Community College) in 1979 with an Associate of Horticulture Degree. Donald was a gardener for Sotterley Plantation.

Donald was the third generation to live, grow up and work on Sotterley Plantation. He assisted his father, Edward Knott, tending to the groundskeeping, such a cutting grass on the riding lawn mower, weeding, and watering the flower beds and gravel paths, as well as serving as parking attendant and security.

During his free time, he would take wheelchair drives all over Sotterley Plantation, from the manor house to the lower plowed fields, all the way down to the wharf’s piers. When he was not relaxing on the plantation countryside, he resided at his second favorite home, the Baltimore Inner Harbor.
Donald was a devoted Catholic. He enjoyed being outside in the hot summer sun, the Hollywood Carnival, the county fair, savoring crab cakes, soft shell crabs, and stuffed ham sandwiches, weekend beer nights, watching any talent competition programs, Oak Island, and a major fan of western movies and television shows. He also loved researching his family tree and enjoyed listening to many genres of music.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church, Hollywood, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM with Father Ray Schmidt officiating.
