Violet Mary (nee Dunbar) Hines, 79, of Lexington Park, MD passed away on January 17, 2022 at her home with her loving family at her side.
She was born on November 16, 1942 in Park Hall, MD to the late Warren Reginald Dunbar and Cora Susette Ridgell Dunbar.
She graduated from St. Michael’s High School in 1961. She went to work for the MaBell Telephone Company for 3 years and then went on to work at McKay’s for 6 years. Her last job was working as a Pharmacy Assistant at Treasury Thrift Drug for years. On April 24, 1987, Violet married her beloved husband, Johnnie Hines. Together they celebrated over 20 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in March 2008.
The simplest pleasures of life brought great joy to her as she liked cooking big family dinners and just spending time with her family. She loved you unconditionally – with no judgement and no stress – just warmth, kindness, and love. No matter who you were, she always made you feel as if she had been waiting to see just you all day. She also had a playful side to her and loved to play bingo with her husband twice a week until his passing and they did quite well! As a faithful Catholic, Violet was dedicated to her faith and belief in God, Jesus his son, and to our Holy Mother Mary. She faithfully prayed and said her Rosary every night.
She is survived by her son Lawrence Edward (Eddie) Keister of Lexington Park, MD and her grandsons – Jimmy Keister and his wife Sunni, Cody Keister, Tony Gonzalez and his wife Ashley, and Ricky Keister; her six great-granchildren; her siblings- Nancy Dunbar Bryant of Knoxville, MD; Reba Dunbar of Idaho and Alice Dunbar of Charlottesville, VA. and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Johnnie, her parents, her daughter Deborah Marie Keister Gonzalez, her siblings Lucille Wright, Warren Edward Dunbar, Alma Catherine Plummer and Richard Dunbar.
The family is having a Memorial Mass on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 12:30 p.m., at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church, 47950 Mattapany Road, St. Mary’s City, MD 20686. Interment will be private.
