On January 19 Sheriff’s Office Patrol units responded to a residence in Mechanicsville for the report of a sexual assault. The Criminal Investigations Division was contacted and assumed the investigation.
Detectives responded and determined a 19 year old female victim had attended a party at a friend’s residence in Mechanicsville and became intoxicated. The victim fell asleep on a sofa at the residence. A friend of the victim went to check on her and discovered the suspect inappropriately touching the victim. The friend confronted the suspect who advised he was not doing anything wrong. The friend took the victim to a bedroom where she again fell asleep. The friend was later awakened when the victim was heard telling the suspect “no” repeatedly. The friend observed the suspect engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim who was incapacitated and pulled the suspect off the victim. The suspect then fled the residence.
Detectives identified the suspect as John Luke Charles Cassini, age 18, of Mechanicsville, Maryland. Cassini was later located, placed under arrest, transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, charged with Second Degree Rape and is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.
