At 8:47 p.m. June 15, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 11700 block of Hemingley Place in Newburg for the report of a shooting. The investigation revealed Derrick Thomas Pulliam, 20, of Brandywine and the victim, a 23-year-old Waldorf man, were attending a gathering when they began to argue.

During the argument, Pulliam brandished a handgun and shot the victim. After the shooting, Pulliam fled the scene. Officers searched the area but could not locate him.

The victim was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Prince George’s Hospital Center where he is expected to survive his injuries.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Pulliam’s arrest charging him with attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, using a handgun in the commission of a violent crime and reckless endangerment.

Anyone with information about Pulliam’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-2222 or Charles County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to Pulliam’s arrest. Det. S. Fetterolf is investigating.
