An elderly man received first- and second-degree burns to his hands, arms and knee on Monday when he accidentally fell into a fire pit while burning brush/yard debris. Ralph Ross, 75, of Yowaiski Mill Road in Mechanicsville, was flown to the Washington Hospital Burn Center by a Maryland State Police Medevac helicopter.
The Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the home after being called at 11:53 a.m. They found the man with burns to his hands, forearms and right knee. The fire department assisted in setting up a landing zone for the helicopter.
The mishap was investigated by Deputy State Fire Marshal J. Ray of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
