The Maryland State Police have released the following statement:
– On Thursday. May 12, 2016, at approximately 2021 hours, Troopers from the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack responded to S/B US RT 301 N/0 Chadds Ford Road for a report of a motor vehicle collision. Investigation revealed a Nissan Maxima, operated by Joseph Gregory Rice of Clinton, MD was traveling NIB on US RT 301 when for unknown reasons, Rice lost control of his vehicle. The Nissan Maxima crossed the center median and entered S/B US RT 301 Lane 1. The Nissan Maxima was struck in the passenger side by a Ford Excursion, operated by Faye Guisbert of La Plata, MD. The front passenger of the Nissan Maxima, Willow Kearse Rice of Clinton, MD, was pronounced deceased on scene. The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.
The investigation is continuing and being investigated by Cpl. J. Zimmerman. (16-MSP-018797)
The Brandywine VFD released the following statement:
UPDATE 7:50 am: The road ended up re-opening shortly after 1:30 AM, per sources.
UPDATE 11:30 pm: Traffic remains at a standstill. The Maryland State Police are the officers at the scene. Road closure can be expected during the accident investigation, per the Prince George’s County Police Department PIO.
UPDATE 10:45 pm: The BayNet was able to confirm the following details: Six people have suffered non-life threatening injuries, while two people are in critical condition. One of the critical patients was flown to a hospital, while the other patient was flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The patient with life-threatening injuries is described as being in “extremely critical” condition.
Brandywine, MD (10:15 PM) – A motor vehicle accident has been reported southbound on the Route 301 and Route 5 split before Chadds Ford Drive. The accident is on the left side of the road and originally occurred shortly after 8:00 PM.
At 10:15 PM, TBN reader Lori Morris informed us that she had been stuck on the ramp for two hours and that “helicopters are flying over.”
