Khadija Dugan, MD, an OB/GYN specialist with a particular interest in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, has joined Calvert OB/GYN Associates of Southern Maryland. She will be providing full-time OB/GYN services at the group’s Dunkirk and Prince Frederick offices.

Dr. Dugan is the latest addition to the OB/GYN practice that includes Ruby Alonzo, MD; Barbara Estes, MD; Michelle Johnson, MD; Diana Soffer, MD; Michael Strider, MD; Joseph Tiralla, MD and Deborah Davis, WHNP. The practice provides all aspects of women’s health care including obstetric and gynecologic care, advanced laparoscopic surgery, urologic evaluation, female sexual health, family planning, infertility and menopause.

Recently, the group added a third office at the Solomons Medical Center. Additionally, two physicians see only GYN patients, which enable them to schedule same-day appointments for urgent needs.

“We are proud to welcome Dr. Dugan to our team,” said Dr. Estes, who is also chief of the medical staff at Calvert Memorial Hospital. “Her professionalism and compassion make her a good fit for us. We are confident that her diverse experience and surgical expertise make her an outstanding choice for patients seeking OB/GYN care.”

Dr. Dugan graduated from the UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey in 2008 and went on to complete her OB/GYN residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in 2012. While there, she had extensive exposure to complex surgical cases involving open, laparoscopic and robotic procedures. Additionally, the resident clinic added significantly to her experience with high-risk obstetrics.

Dr. Dugan’s interest in OB/GYN was sparked in high school when she volunteered at a teen and adolescent clinic in Philadelphia. “I was always drawn to activities pertaining to women’s health,” she said. In medical school, she served as director of the Women’s Health Outreach Program, a student-run free health clinic.

“I love that I can care for my patients throughout their entire life from adolescence through menopause and develop lifelong relationships,” she said.

Her special interests include adolescent gynecology and preventive healthcare as well as contraception management and family planning. Since completing her residency, she has worked as an Independent Contractor Physician at various hospitals throughout Maryland.
