FORT GEORGE G. MEADE – A Thursday evening fire damaged a portion of the Pet Care Center, located on Fort George G. Meade.

The fire broke out at around 7:15 p.m. and burned for about thirty minutes, damaging the roof of one of two buildings in the Pet Care Center complex.

Fort Meade Fire Fighters and Anne Arundel County Fire units put out the blaze. Fort Meade police and several other emergency responders then helped secure more than thirty dogs and cats who were boarded at the facility.

One cat was sent to emergency veterinary services for observation. The rest of the pets were unharmed. No humans were injured in the blaze.

The Fort Meade Pet Care Center offers doggie day care as well as dog and cat boarding services. Doggie day care services will have to be suspended until further notice.
