The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has positively identified the suspect involved in a shooting yesterday, March 18, as Jonathan Zacharias Lyles, 24, of Oxon Hill, Md.
At about 7:15 a.m. on March 18, officers were attempting to place Lyles under arrest for driving under the influence when he violently resisted and fired a shot from his handgun. Lyles’ shot did not strike any officers and an officer returned fire, striking Lyles once in the chest. He died a short time later at Prince George’s Hospital Center.
The officers involved in the incident remain on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
