UPDATE FROM CCSO: On Friday, January 21, 2022, deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau responded to the Appeal Convenience Center located at 200 Sweetwater Lane in Lusby, MD for the report of shots being fired.

Preliminary investigation revealed the suspect Patrick Allan Portzen, 39 of Lusby MD, became involved in a verbal argument with an employee. Portzen threatened the employee and left in a vehicle. While exiting the Appeal Convenience Center, Portzen fired two shots. He was last observed traveling northbound on Rt. 4.

Deputies located the suspect vehicle and made contact with the Portzen at a residence in the 300 block of Skyview Drive in the White Sands neighborhood in Lusby, MD.  Portzen was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported.

Portzen was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with First-Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment.

Update: 4:08 p.m. Reference to police activity on Skyview Dr. in White Sands, the situation is under control and the roadway is open. Residents that were sheltering in their homes are now able to leave.

Update: 3:00 p.m. – Police Activity in the area of Skyview Drive in White Sands, Lusby, MD. Roadway will be shut down until further notice. If you live in the area, stay inside your homes.

Police have a residence surrounded preparing to breech the home as tactical and medical units arrive.

SMCSO: The Emergency Alert received by several St. Mary’s residents was sent in error by Calvert County. The alert was meant for the White Sands Drive community and does NOT effect St. Mary’s County.  Any questions can be directed to the Calvert County Emergency Communications Center.   

Update: Police confirm the vehicle is a 2021 Nissan Maxima.

LUSBY, Md. – We are receiving reports of shots fired at the transfer station on Appeal Lane shortly after 2:00 p.m., this afternoon.

Police are on the look out for a male suspect in a grey Nissan vehicle with Ohio tags. Reporting a female driving the vehicle and the suspect male was in the passenger seat.

Police viewed security video footage to confirm the tag number.
