Washington, DC –
The U.S. Defense Department recently amended its fiscal year (FY) 2015 budget includes Military Construction (MILCON) line items for Patuxent River Naval Air Station and Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head.

The $9,860 MILCON for the Atlantic Test Range aboard Patuxent River will be “a two-story building addition, approx. 17,000 square feet, for administrative and meeting spaces, with an elevator. It will also encompass site improvements such as a new parking lot, curbs, sidewalks, storm water drainage, and site lighting” according the Connie Hempel Pax River Public Affairs.

While NSWC Indian Head has a $15,346 MILCON line item for phase 2 of the Advanced Energetics Lab Complex.

In a statement from Andrew Revelos, NSA South Potomac Public Affairs, “The project will provide new laboratory space for state-of-the-art equipment at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division. This laboratory will enable rapid development and delivery of advanced energetic materials for next-generation weapons systems, which directly impacts the warfighter munitions, missions, safety, and superiority. The project allows the Navy to maintain core DoD Energetic Material Research capability which is key to explosive weapons system development and sustainment of in-service systems.”

Request for Proposals (RFP) for both projects are expected to be issued later this year.
