The American Red Cross welcomes Michelle Thompson to the staff of the American Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region. Thompson has been hired as the Red Cross Emergency Services Program Manager for Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s Counties.

“Michelle’s resume is impressive,” Gonzalo Hernández, Acting Red Cross Emergency Services Director for the Chesapeake Region says. “She brings a great deal of Red Cross and government related disaster response experience to this role.”

Before coming to Maryland, Thompson spent five years with the Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids as the Disaster Services Program Manger. Prior to the Red Cross, she served as the Program Manager for the Metropolitan Medical Response System with Kent County, Michigan Emergency Medical Services.

A native of Grand Haven, Michigan, Thompson now calls Annapolis home. For more information or if you have questions about her new role, contact Gonzalo Hernández at 410/624-2043.

More than twice a day the American Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region provides basic needs to disaster victims such as emergency shelter, food, clothing and counseling to Maryland families after disasters thanks to major support from donors to the United Way campaigns in Maryland. Each day the Red Cross also provides lifesaving blood to area hospitals; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
