Replica Handgun Recovered at Mattawoman Middle School 040122-1

WALDORF, Md. – On April 1, 2022, at 9:10 a.m., a school resource officer was made aware that an 8th-grade student at Mattawoman Middle School was possibly in possession of a firearm.

Upon further investigation, the officer found a replica semi-automatic firearm in the student’s locker. The gun was recovered and the student’s parents were contacted.

The case was screened with the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office which advised to charge the student with possession of a concealed deadly weapon. The juvenile was charged on a juvenile offense report and released to a parent.

  1. With all the incidents in the news , social media where the hell did this child miss getting the message ?
    The article is lacking as does not indicate if the item depicted in the photo is the item recovered ..
    (IF) the child had pointed that at a SRO or a responding LEO odds are the officer would have every cause to shot the kid….( if it were the toy gun in the picture…)
    This child needs a message pounded home .. that they are lucky they weren’t shot and killed …if they had pointed the gun at a police officer ..
    Further investigation as to why the child thought bringing this “toy” to school was going to be ok..

  2. There’s a saying that “Boys will be boys.” It’s possible some kids think it’s cool to show and tell your firearms in school or he might have been bullied. We’ll never know.

    See?!!! This is the entire problem! Yes, a 13 year old should know this by now but it’s STILL on the parents! Until they’re charged, this problem will continue!
