ST. MARY’S CITY, MD — Moving melodies and blooming bursts of color could be experienced together at St. Mary’s College July 1.

The River Brass and Blues … plus Fireworks! concert was the latest of the weekly River Concert Series hosted by the Chesapeake Orchestra directed by Jeffrey Silberschlag.

Music lovers made camp as they prepared for an evening at the Townehouse Green, with some having packed sangria and other picnic goods. Some concert goers were sprawled out on blankets, while others watched their children play with glow sticks and beach balls.

Vendors such as Bruster’s Ice Cream, Grizzly Mountain Grill, Sunshine’s Catering, I’se Da Bye’s, and others were on site to provide for concert goers as they listened to the music of John Phillip Sousa, Henry Fillmore, Prince, James Brown and others as the evening progressed.

With multiple bangs, booms, and whizzes, the fireworks capped off the event to the tune of an arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.

The 18th annual River Concert Series runs from June 17 through July 22.
