Robert Bryan (Bobby) Wimberly, Sr, 70, passed away peacefully following a long illness (COPD and Asbestosis), on Thursday October 21, 2021 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD.  He was born July 13, 1951. Bobby was the son of the late Margaret Ann “Peggy” McMurray and grandson of the late William Bryan Knott and Alice Josephine “Aga” Taylor Knott.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou Wimberly and his children: Travis Michael Wimberly and Jason Patrick Wimberly, both of St. Inigoes, MD; and his granddaughter, Summer Nicole Wimberly. He is preceded in death by his son, Robert Bryan Wimberly, Jr.

Bobby is also survived by his brother, Randolph Luther Wimberly (Bonnie) of St. Inigoes, MD;  his aunt, Betty Lou Johnson (Bunk) of Virginia Beach, VA; nieces, Shelby Louise Wimberly and Bridget Ann Wimberly of St. Inigoes, MD; cousins, Darcy Coles (Randy) and Benjy Johnston, along with many extended family and friends.

Mary Lou was Bobby’s high school sweetheart, whom he married in 1970 at the St. Mary’s County Courthouse. They later renewed their vows in 1990 at St Michael’s Church in Ridge, MD.  Bobby graduated from St. Michael’s School, Ridge, MD in 1965 and from Great Mills High School, Great Mills, MD in 1969. He completed the State of Maryland Bricklayer’s Apprenticeship in 1972. His sponsor for the apprenticeship was Gordon H. Ragan.  Bobby also completed the U.S. Coast Guard Sea Captain’s Course and obtained his license.

Bobby’s work took him all over the state performing the masonry needs on schools, government buildings, and other masonry projects. He built the house of their dreams with the help of Mary Lou and his son, Jr. by his side. After the loss of Bryan, Jr, the Lord blessed Bobby and Mary Lou with 2 more wonderful sons, Travis and Jason.

Bobby loved and enjoyed quail hunting. He regularly fished and crabbed after being taught by his grandfather and passed those skills onto his sons. He also treasured hunting snapping turtles, Bobby was constantly searching for them in muddy water being sure to grab them by the tail to catch them. He liked to sit on the porch and listen to country music and tried his best not to miss the swap shop each morning on the radio.  Bobby absolutely loved to dance and had trouble sitting down while the music was playing.  He was an avid cook and delighted in having many friends and family members in for a celebration, which usually ended with a good “Pitch” game.

Bobby cherished gathering his family so they could all travel to the Shenandoah mountains enjoying the outdoors and canoeing.  He also loved his trips to Virginia Beach, VA to visit with family.
