Dunkirk, MD – A second Harris Teeter for the Southern Maryland region is likely to be opening in late August, a spokesman for the developer of a multi-tenant retail center under construction in Calvert County told TheBayNet. ECHO Realty Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Development Drew Gorman said the Shoppes at Apple Greene project in Dunkirk is beginning to wind down and the Harris Teeter and the other anchor store—Marshalls—are tentatively scheduled to open soon. Marshalls, a department store with two current regional locations—California and Brandywine—is tentatively slated to open Aug. 16 with the Harris-Teeter to follow Aug. 22. Gorman stressed that the retailers have not officially announced the opening dates but are projecting opening their doors to customers in about seven to eight weeks.

“We’re finishing off the last of the work,” said Gorman. “We’re down to landscaping.” Gorman added that a gas station affiliated with the Harris-Teeter is to be built. “It’s anticipated that will open with the store.”

A Maryland Department of Environment-approved wastewater treatment plant has been completed and is in operation.

Other tenants opening locations at Shoppes of Apple Greene are Mattress Warehouse, Spa #1 Nails, Wine & Spirits, MOD Pizza, Starbucks, Five Guys, Taco Bell, Jersey Mike’s, Berkshire Hathaway, Great Clips, and Calvert Cleaners and Tailoring. Gorman told TheBayNet.com that there are two retail units still available and management is likely to have one of the units leased within the next few days. Most of the tenants have received building permits to begin interior work.

Shoppes of Apple Greene contains 100,074 square feet of retail space and is located off Southern Maryland Boulevard (Route 4) and Ward Road.
