The St. Mary’s County Public School System is pleased to announce countywide prekindergarten roundups to screen children to determine eligibility for school year 2012 – 2013. All schools will hold prekindergarten roundups on Friday, April 27, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon and on Friday, May 18, 2012, from 12:00 noon – 2:30 p.m. The goal of the prekindergarten program is to provide initial learning experiences to help children develop basic skills and concepts necessary for successful school performance. A child must be four years old on or before September 1, 2012, and come from a family with an economically disadvantaged background. If vacancies remain after children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds have been enrolled, the remaining vacancies will be filled using locally determined at-risk criteria.
Parent(s)/Guardian(s) must provide a birth certificate, proof of residence, and complete the application form at the time of the prekindergarten screening. All children are screened to determine eligibility for prekindergarten. Each elementary school will conduct the prekindergarten roundups for the children residing in their school zone. You do not need to pre-register for the countywide prekindergarten roundups.
If you qualify for entrance into the prekindergarten program, you may register for the 2012 – 2013 school year at the same time. If you choose to register for school at that time, you will need all of the following information:
