Children of all ages came to the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds to show off their animal husbandry prowess at the annual Southern Maryland Invitational Expo this past weekend. The Bay Net was there to record the proceedings and has created a slide show of the event below.
SMILE is designed to increase awareness of Southern Maryland’s rich agricultural heritage and to provide fun for everyone. “SMILE is an educational livestock show in a jack-pot format,” chairman Jay Farrell said. He added that unfortunately, most shows of this ilk are out of the area and expensive for children and their families to attend. “The SMILE show gives our local kids an opportunity to get the feel of another type of show close to home other than the county fair”.
This year, the competition included dairy cows for the first time.
