LEONARDTOWN, Md. – The St. Mary’s County Defense Community Infrastructure Program (DCIP) team is participating in the Association of Defense Communities (ADC) Installation Innovation Forum!

“We are honored to be one of four projects selected to participate in the ADC Installation Innovation Forum to share best practices,” says John Deatrick, Director of Public Works & Transportation. The forum, hosted Nov. 1 – 3, features a mix of general sessions, Department of Defense town halls and networking opportunities. The conference intends to highlight dozens of innovative community partnerships across the country and new ways to approach military family quality of life issues.

St. Mary’s County’s Deputy Director for Public Works & Transportation, Don Mills, will speak for the “Defense Community Infrastructure Program – Lessons Learned and Best Practices” session. The session will highlight four successful projects, dive into how the program is working, and provide key insights on how communities can take advantage of this innovative new grant program.

The Defense Community Infrastructure Program is quickly establishing itself as a vital resource for both installations and communities looking to address infrastructure challenges. St. Mary’s County is happy to be a recipient and champion of the program.

As a reminder, in September 2021, the Department of Defense selected St. Mary’s County as one of only 13 DCIP grant awards for the country! St. Mary’s County’s Departments of Economic Development and Public Works and Transportation collaborated with the Naval Air Station Patuxent River (NAS PAX) to submit the application to build a crosswalk to ensure safe passage across Three Notch Road at Gate 2. The $395,118 grant award will fund most of the $564,454 project.
