As part of America Recycles Week, November 13 – 19, 2005, St. Mary’s County is joining others across the country in urging residents to make a pledge to recycle and buy recycled products. By making a pledge, residents will help their communities while becoming eligible for a national prize drawing.  Contest pledge forms are available at all six St. Mary’s County Convenience Centers or online at www.americarecyclesday.org.  The entry deadline is on America Recycles Day, November 15, 2005.  The contest is sponsored through the America Recycles Day, Inc. program.

In addition, the Board of Commissioners and the Department of Public Works and Transportation are pleased to announce three (3) new recycling programs.  The citizens of St. Mary’s County will be able to recycle Used Cooking Oil, Fluorescent Light Bulbs/Tubes and Electronic Equipment such as Computers (CPU’s, Monitors, Printers, Keyboards, Mouse, etc.), televisions, VCR’s, DVD Players, Radios, and other electronic equipment.  The Department of Public Works & Transportation Recycling Program, in conjunction with Valley Proteins, Inc. and USA Lights of Maryland, will begin recycling the previously mentioned items at the six (6) Convenience Centers located throughout the County in the near future.
