The St. Mary’s College women’s basketball team opened their contest against Trinity (DC) with a 15-2 run and never looked back on their way to a 72-59 non-conference victory on Monday afternoon. With the win, the Seahawks snapped a four-game losing skid and improved to 5-10 overall on the season. The Tigers fell to 2-8 overall and saw their modest two-game winning streak come to an end with the loss.

The Seahawks held a double digit lead throughout the remainder of the contest after the game opening 15-2 run. Sophomore guard Allison Hartnett (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Dobbs Ferry) keyed the run with two three-point field goals on her way to 13 points in the contest. Hartnett was the only Seahawk to hit from behind the arc in the contest as she was 4-of-8 total from the field, including 3-of-7 from long distance.

Sophomore guard Megan Uglik (Frederick, MD/Linganore) scored a team-high 14 points to lead St. Mary’s. She also contributed with five rebounds and tied Hartnett and freshman guard Kiely Murphy (Olney, MD/Good Counsel) for the team lead with four assists on the afternoon. Freshman forward Allie Scott (Laurel, MD/Atholton) added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field while sophomore forward Lisa Daciek (Laurel, MD/Atholton) collected a game-high ten rebounds for the Seahawks.

Senior center Lauren McClain scored a game-high 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field for Trinity. Sophomore guard Lauren Hall added 11 points with eight assists and three steals while sophomore forward Joely Jones chipped in with ten points and five rebounds before fouling out late in the contest.

The Seahawks will return to action on Wednesday, January 18, when they host Gallaudet University in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
