At 3:30 a.m. June 1, units from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State, Police Barrack “U” Prince Frederick, responded to the home of Michael and Michelle Figgins at 1265 Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick in reference to a domestic disturbance complaint.

Contact was made with Michelle Figgins, who advised that the two had been to a party and an argument between the two ensued which resulted in each subject throwing beer bottles at the other.  Both parties separated and later went home.

While at the home, Michelle Figgins went to the bathroom to shower and when she was finished she could not get out of the bathroom.  She could hear a shotgun being “racked” from the other side of the door.  She was able to climb out of the bathroom where she went and got help.

Units tried to contact Michael Figgins and he would not come to the door.  The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Team and the Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the residence and made countless attempts via telephone and public address system to contact Figgins.

The SOT breached the front door of the home with explosives at which time Michael Figgins walked out of the home and was taken into custody.  He was charged by Deputy Robert Traas with false imprisonment and was awaiting appearance in front of the District Court Commissioner.
