Waldorf, MD— Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is seeking parents to serve on the school system’s District Committee on Assessment. The committee includes parents, teachers and administrators and will hold its first meeting on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building in La Plata.
The committee needs two parent representatives to serve from the following groups:
· A parent with a student in grades 3-5, and
· A parent with a student in grades 9-12.
The state has tasked the committee to review Maryland’s use of assessment and testing in public schools and to make recommendations to local and state school systems on how to improve assessment. Volunteers will discuss recommendations for monitoring, evaluating and communicating the school system’s assessment programs.
The committee will meet a minimum of six times beginning Jan. 19. Meetings will be held on Thursdays, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building in La Plata. Meeting dates are:

· March 16
· April 20
· May 18
· June 15
