At 6:07 p.m. June 16, units from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to a motor vehicle crash at Broomes Island Road at Mackall Road in St. Leonard.

The investigation showed that a 1995 BMW was traveling north on Broomes Island Road just north of Mackall Road.  The BMW lost control on the wet roadway.

The BMW skidded off of the roadway and struck a utility pole.  The pole struck the BMW on the driver’s side door.

The driver of the BMW was identified as Shannon Marie Pearson, 16 of St. Leonard.  She sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital.  She was later transferred to the Washington Hospital Center MedStar unit. Pearson was listed in critical condition at MedStar.

Two passengers of the BMW, Jennifer Lynn Channell, 16 of St. Leonard, and Courtney Lynn Williams, 16 of Port Republic, were both transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation into the crash is being handled by Cpl. James Wahlgren of the Crash Reconstruction Unit.
