The Charles County Parks Division invites the public to the grand opening of the Turkey Hill Park Disc Golf Course on Saturday, April 26 at 10 a.m. The Southern Maryland Disc Golf Club (SMDGC) is co-sponsoring the event, which is open to all ages. This 18-hole course will officially be opened to the public on this date ¾ be the first to play this exciting new facility!
Once known as “Frisbee Golf”, disc golf has evolved into one of the nation’s fastest growing outdoor sports. It is similar to regular golf; however, instead of using golf clubs and balls and aiming for a hole, disc golf players use golf discs and aim for elevated, chain-covered baskets. Starting at a designated tee, the object is to get your disc in the basket in the fewest number of throws. Disc golf is a healthy activity that is inexpensive, easy to learn, and fun for all ages.
Be one of the first 100 participants to receive a free Innova golf disc. Instructional clinics for beginners and door prizes will be available throughout the day. SMDGC will also offer several contests with proceeds benefiting the Humane Society of Charles County. The program will start with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the grand opening.
Turkey Hill Park Disc Golf Course is located on Turkey Hill Road in La Plata. The Disc Golf Course will be open every day between 8 a.m. and dusk. There is no charge for drop-in use of this facility. For additional information call 301-932-3470.
