Anne Arundel County, MD — Two marinas in Anne Arundel County have been re-certified as ‘Clean Marinas’ by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

The Bay Ridge Community Association Marina in Annapolis and Ventnor Marina in Pasadena met all the requirements to earn a three-year re-certification.

Clean Marina certification is good for three years, after which the facility needs to have another site visit from program staff to verify that the marina’s “best practices” are still in place.

The Maryland Clean Marina Initiative recognizes and promotes marinas, boatyards and yacht clubs of any size that meet legal requirements and voluntarily adopt pollution prevention practices.

Typical best management practices include routinely giving customers fuel pads at a fuel dock, having current emergency response plans, and taking steps to share environmental education information with customers/boaters.

The department has certified nearly 25 percent of Maryland’s estimated 600 marinas as Clean Marinas or Clean Marina Partners and we aim to continue increasing this number moving forward.
