SOMD – COVID fears did not keep voters away from the polls. A record number of voters turned out to cast their ballots at polling centers throughout Southern Maryland on Tuesday.

By noon, the line of voters at the High Schools in Calvert County stretched at least a quarter-mile long. Estimated crowds of over 300 people stood six feet apart as they waited their turn vote.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office sent out an alert for the voting center at Patuxent High School in Lusby asking voters to please park in the parking lot and not in the grass. The Sheriff warned, “Vehicles parking in grass will be towed.”

Voting centers are open throughout Southern Maryland from 7 am to 8 pm.
