Dallas, TX – New Orleans Pelicans guard Bryce Dejean-Jones, 23, has died after being shot in the abdomen early Saturday morning. Dejean-Jones was shot after breaking into a Dallas man’s apartment. After continuing into the house, Dejean-Jones proceeded to kick in the resident’s bedroom door.
At this point, the resident shot Dejean-Jones in the abdomen, according to police.
Dejean-Jones was transported to a hospital where he died from the injuries.
Scott Nichols, Dejean-Jones’ agent, claims his client was in Dallas to be with his girlfriend and celebrate his daughter’s first birthday.
According to Nichols, Dejean-Jones had not visited her new apartment before. Nichols claims that Dejean-Jones accidentally went to the wrong apartment unit, thinking it belonged to his girlfriend.
At this time, It is unclear whether charges will be filed.
After being undrafted out of Iowa State, Dejean-Jones eventually latched on with the Pelicans by signing a 10-day contract, an opportunity he ultimately turned into a three-year contract.
Dejean-Jones amassed 5.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game across 14 games last season.
