BENEDICT, Md. — Sunflower season has arrived in Maryland, bringing fields of bright yellow blooms and plenty of reasons to get outside before summer ends. From picking your own bouquet to enjoying hayrides, live music and family-friendly festivals, farms across Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties are celebrating the season. Here are some of the best sunflower farms and events to visit in Southern Maryland before the blooms are gone!

The Sunflower Festival At Serenity Farm

Serenity Farm is hosting a Sunflower Festival between Sept. 5 and Sept. 6, offering visitors a variety of activities to enjoy at the annual event. With six acres of sunflowers to walk through, attendees can pick as many as they want for a $15 entrance fee, though you can get tickets for only $12 if you book your visit online in advance. Children age 7 and younger get into the Sunflower Festival for free, so this is a fantastic family activity for Southern Marylanders.

In addition to the flower fields, the Sunflower Festival at Serenity Farm will feature vendors, live music, food, face painting and even hayrides, so it’s worth a visit this summer if you enjoy community events. Leashed dogs are welcome at the Sunflower Festival, too, offering a relaxing outing for your furry friends!

Swann Farms

Open between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. every day, Swann Farms is located in Owings, so it’s a top choice for sunflower fans in Southern Maryland. Their Sunflower Path is the perfect spectacle if you want to gaze at the beautiful yellow display and pick a few flowers to take home, as visitors can enjoy the summer festivities for a small $3 admission fee.

For $1 per bloom or $15 per bundle, you can build your own unique bouquet of sunflowers at Swann Farms this August and September. Children age 4 or younger are admitted for free, so this spot is another good option if you live in Calvert County.

The Dixon Family Farm offers a U-Cut Flowers event in the summer where visitors can walk through their fields to build their very own beautiful container of flowers. Their smallest option is $15, while a bucket of flowers costs $50.

Located a short drive outside of Southern Maryland in Anne Arundel County, Knightongale Farm is hosting its annual Sunflower Festival this September. Knightongale Farm is currently monitoring the flowers to determine the best weekend to host the event, with tentative dates set for Sept. 12 and Sept. 13 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

In addition to sunflowers, dozens of other wildflowers are growing at The Sunflower Garden, so this is a great spot for finding a wide variety of colors all in the same place. Make sure to bring your own bucket for collecting the flowers, though!

Clark’s Elioak Farm

Clark’s Elioak Farm is a prime location for snapping pictures of sunflowers as we enter the final stage of summer. Their Sunflower Showcase event runs from Aug. 21 to Sept. 13, and you can enjoy an entire field full of sunflowers for less than $10.

The admission fee at Clark’s Elioak Farm is only $8 per person. The price includes a trip to their petting farm and a variety of children’s activities, so Clark’s Elioak Farm is the perfect place for a family fun day this September.
