Born on May 3, 1913 in Surry County, VA, he was the son of late Jesse W. and Maude R. Robertson Collier. Mr. Collier served his country in the US Navy with over 21 years of service. He received the American Area Medal, European African Middle East Area Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal 4 and the American Defense Medal. After retiring from the US Navy, he worked as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service for several years. Mr. Collier worked at St. Mary?s College as an athletic equipment supervisor.
He is survived by a son, Jesse Burt Collier, Jr. and his wife, Beth of Lusby, MD a daughter, Jacqueline Barrett Johnson of Marshall, VA, 2 grandchildren, Kimberley E. White and David Eric White, 2 great grandchildren and a brother, Eugene Thomas Collier of Duluth, MN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Claudine Collier in 1996 and 3 brothers, Benjamin R. Collier, John W. Collier and Richard R. Collier.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD with prayers being recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hollywood United Methodist Church, Hollywood, MD. The Reverend Christopher Owens will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the Joy Chapel Cemetery, Hollywood, MD.
