Joseph Dale Norris of Hughesville, MD died on June 24, 2004 in Charlotte Hall, MD. He was 73 years old.

Born on November 27, 1930 in Oakville, Maryland to the late Jessie Mae Wood and James Norman Norris. Dale served in the U. S. Army from 1947 until he was Honorably Discharged in 1954 at the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, the Occupation Medal Germany, the Occupation Medal Japan and the Good Conduct Medal. Dale worked for Giant Foods, mainly as a Bakery Delivery Truck Driver until he retired with 40 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Hughesville, Maryland and past member as well as past Chief Engineer of the Silver Hill Fire Department. He loved to play the guitar and played regularly with different bands in the area, mainly playing country bluegrass music. He was a NASCAR and Dale Earnhart, Sr. fan. Dale loved his family, home and his many friends.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Norris and brother John W. “Tootie” Norris.

He is survived by his sons Joseph David, John Edwin and Adrian Norris; brother Cecil Norris; sisters Faye Burroughs and Norma Buckler; grandchildren David Lee, Cassie, Amanda and Lexy; nieces Donna Beitz, Alison Spicer, Susan Hamilton, Vicki Wenke, Patsy Johnson & Jonnie Sue Hanna; nephews Donald Bubba Burroughs and Jeffrey Norris.

Family and friends may gather on Sunday, June 27, 2004 from 6 to 8PM with Prayers at 7PM at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Road Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Service and Interment 12Noon Monday, June 28, 2004 at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD Procession to leave the funeral home at 11:15AM. Pallbearers include David Lee Norris, Ike Lee, Tom Shipley, Donald Burroughs, Jr., Larry Nimmerichter and Tommy Alvey. Honorary Pallbearers are Donald Clarke, Billy Bridgett, Ken Dyson and Stanley Buckler.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s County or Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
