James Franklin ?Frank? Abell, 94, of Mechanicsville died Saturday, February 26, 2005 at home in the care of his dedicated caregivers, Dorothy Fenwick, Dorothy Goldring and Charles Fenwick.

Born September 15, 1910 in Compton, MD, he was the son of the late John Fulton and Noema Wathen Abell.

He is survived by four daughters, Lois Ann Abell Fowler of Hughesville, Diane Dunbar Abell Delahay of Leonardtown, Sara Ann Abell Brown of Roseville, CA and Faye Cecilia Abell Reid of Waldorf; sisters, Marie Bassford, Loretta Taylor, Sister Sara Ann Abell, SCN, sister-in-law, Shirley Abell; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his wife, Lucie Ann Dunbar Abell; brothers, John Fulton, Walter B. and Perry Abell; sisters, Catherine Colonna, Sister Pauline, SCN, Sister Alberta Maria, SCN and grandson, Zach M. Fowler, IV.

Frank was Past President of Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department, Charter Member and Past President of Mechanicsville Lions Club, and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He attended St. John?s College, was employed by National Biscuit Co. where he received Nationwide Awards in sales. Thereafter, he became self-employed, establishing J. Frank Abell Vending slot machine icon and better know as owner of Frank Abell?s Steak House and Benedict Pier. He was a commissioner of the Tri-State Thoroughbred Racing Association.

Visitation will be at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 with prayers recited at 7:00 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Church in Mechanicsville at 11am on Wednesday, March 2, 2005. The Reverend Peter Alliata will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Aloysius Gonzaga Cemetery, Leonardtown, MD.

Pallbearers for Mr. Abell will be Frank Fowler, Bill Fowler, Glenn Delahay, Allan Delahay, Frank O. Fowler and Wayne Tucker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dale Delahay, Travis Brown, Lucy Tucker, Mandy Woodburn, Heather Ostrom, Colleen Reid and Jennifer Reid.
