Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department and responded to a gas leak inside a home on Skinners Turn Road at 11:11 a.m. March 28. Crews, with the assistance of Huntingtown Volunteer Volunteer Fire Department, discovered a fuel oil line was broken and leaking into the home.

As the volunteers turned off the fuel and began cleaning up the hazard, a call went out for a fire in a barn and surrounding brush on Williams Road in Prince Frederick.

Numerous departments responded, including Dunkirk, Huntingtown, St. Leonardtown and Hughesville. First on the scene found a barn fully engulfed and several brush fires.

A folding tank was set up for water supply as several tanker trucks went to work on the barn blaze and surrounding flames.

After the barn collapsed, fire command requested a gradeall and front end loader to spread the debris out to allow it to be extinguished fully.

Crews remained on the scene for nearly three hours before being out back into service.
