UPDATE

According to Capt. Rathgeb of the NRP, Kaniya Kenly and three other children went to swim in a designated “no swimming” area  and were pulled under water by strong currents. The other children were able to make it back to shore but Kaniya was pulled further into the bay. Two fishermen on the beach tried to rescue her but the current was too strong.

No lifeguards were on duty at the time of the incident.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) confirmed Wednesday morning, Aug. 29 that the body of a 12-year-old Baltimore girl, Kaniya Kenly, was recovered from the Chesapeake Bay after being reported missing Tuesday evening.
