A major quick service eatery is preparing to open a location in the north end of Calvert County. C.R. โRickโ Bailey Jr., vice president of Marrick Properties has confirmed that Burger King will be locating in Dunkirk. Bailey said the new location will be opening before the end of the summer at the building formerly occupied by Arbyโs.
โRight now the only quick service restaurant in Dunkirk is McDonaldโs so it will be a good addition to the community,โ said Bailey, who added both Burger King and McDonaldโs โhave been responsiveโ to consumersโ calls for more diversified menus.
Bailey said the site plan review for the new restaurant was handled administratively by the Calvert County Department of Community Planning and Building. Only minor changes are being made to the structure and pad site, which already includes and accommodates a drive-up window. The site plan has been reviewed by the Dunkirk Architectural Review Committee, a building permit has been obtained and permits from the Calvert County Health Department and Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office will need to be obtained before the new restaurant is allowed to open for business.
According to Bailey, the Dunkirk Burger King will be owned and operated by a local franchisee who manages several other Burger Kings in Charles and St. Maryโs counties. The franchisee does not have any connection to Calvertโs only other Burger King, which is located in Solomons.
Bailey indicated the agreement to have the old Dunkirk Arbyโs location reoccupied by a major restaurant franchise was a long time in coming. โWe reached out and talked to several other franchises and Burger King was the most responsive,โ he said.
