Keith Allan Krikstan

La Plata, MD – A former substitute teacher at a Charles County middle school who was arrested earlier this year after several students made allegations of inappropriate behavior has been indicted. The accused, Keith Allan Krikstan, 30 of Waldorf, was indicted on nine misdemeanor counts related to the Jan. 13 incident in which he allegedly had inappropriate contact with an adolescent girl at John Hanson Middle School (JHMS). The grand juryโ€™s June 1 indictment also included a felony chargeโ€”second-degree rape. That charge stems from an incident that authorities believe occurred between February and April of 2007.

The other charges Krikstan faces are three counts of possession of child pornography and six counts of possession with intent to distribute obscene material. A court docket summary indicated Krikstan was being held without bond after a bench warrant was issued Friday, June 1.

This past January, several JHMS students reported to a Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office school resource officer that the substitute teacher was โ€œinappropriate communication with another student,โ€ a Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office report stated. โ€œOfficers learned Krikstan had obtained a cell phone number of a female student in December 2017 and began texting her. Soon after, they kept in contact via FaceTime and social media.

Evidence showed Krikstan convinced the girl to send explicit photos to him and he sent some to her.โ€

Charles County Public Schools officials removed from JHMS. A search warrant executed by the investigating police officers yielded cell phones and computers. Forensic analyses were conducted on the electronic devices. The lead investigator in the case is Detective E. Webster of the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office.
