Born on March 28, 1908 in Loveville, MD, she was the daughter of the late William Charles and Violet Woodburn Bowles. She was the wife of the late William E. ?Willie? Johnson, Sr. whom she married in Washington, DC in 1931. In her younger days she attended St. Joseph?s School in Morganza, MD. She was a member of St. Jerome?s Catholic Church in Hyattsville, MD. Mrs. Johnson worked for the Telephone Company in Washington, DC. Aunt Rosie enjoyed visiting her family in the county when she could and also enjoyed going to and watching the Baltimore Orioles baseball games and watching The Grand Ole Opry. In her later years she lived with her caretaker Connie Switzer and her husband Sonny in Landover, MD.
She is survived by her daughter Diane Ann and her husband Joe Herman of Stanford, VA, a grandson, David Herman and his wife of Arizona, a brother, John R. Bowles and his wife Isabelle of Clinton, MD and many nieces and nephews in St. Mary?s County.
She was preceded in death by a son, William E. Johnson, Jr. on March 2, 1943, her husband, William E. Johnson, Sr. on April 29, 1974, five sisters, Mary Kines, Etta Bailey, Queenie Mae Johnson, Minnie Wathen and Margaret C. Guy, and three brothers, Joseph Aloysius Bowles, William Charles Bowles, Jr. and James Wilmer Bowles.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on October 22, 2005 at 12 Noon in St. Jeromes Catholic Church, 5205 43rd Avenue, Hyattsville, MD 20781.
Interment was in Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD.
