Charles E. Dotson, Jr. โCharlieโ, 76, of Lanham, MD passed away Sunday, June 9th, 2019, at Bickford Assisted Living, Spotsylvania, VA.
He was born on November 30, 1942 in Leonardtown, MD to the late Charles E. Dotson, Sr. and Elizabeth Aileen Johnson.
Charlie was a physics teacher at Bowie High School for twenty-eight (28) years and one (1) year at Great Mills High School. During his teaching years, he was also a general contractor, and started Dotson Builders. He had many interests: gardening, dancing, and flying small planes among others. He enjoyed doing charitable work for Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together, Anne Arundel County, MD. He enjoyed improving peopleโs lives and never lost his passion for teaching.
Charlie touched so many lives working on projects for his relatives and customers who became like family, never losing touch with fellow teachers and friends from his home place. Making new friends wherever he went; he even won the hearts of his caretakers at Bickford in the brief time he was there. He will be missed by many, but none as much as his family.
He is survived by his daughter Angela Helwig (Alan) and son Kenneth Dotson, along with his first wife Mary Louise. He is also survived by his second wifeโs daughter, Linda Riley (Rick), and sons, Patrick Flannery (Lori), David Moorman (Regina) and Tony Moorman (Jessica). He has 23 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. Charlie is also survived by siblings Shirley A. Bowles (Tom) of Leonardtown, MD; Wayne J. Dotson (Barbara) of Mechanicsville, MD; Mary Helen DeLay (Terry) of Mechanicsville, MD; and ten (10) nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by Linda, his second wife, her sons Howard and Samuel, and his grandsons, A. Stephen Helwig, Jr. and Christopher (KID) W. Moorman.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. and a Memorial Service conducted by Deacon Joe Lloyd, will be heard at 11:00 a.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Interment will be private.
