Charles Henry Bennett, Sr, 84, of Lexington Park, MD, died on July 25, 2005 at St. Mary?s Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD.

Born on August 1, 1920 in Hollywood, MD, he was the son of the late John Calvert Bennett and Minnie Victoria Randall Bennett. Mr. Bennett served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II earning the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, American Theater Service Ribbon, Distinguished Unit Badge and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He worked for the Leonardtown Laundry and the Lexington Park Laundry for more than 30 years. He also worked at the Tennison Store in Lexington Park, MD.

He is survived by his children, Peggy Wade of California, MD, Shirley M. Butler of Leonardtown, MD, Charles H. Bennett, Jr. of Lexington Park, MD, James Calvert Bennett of Philadelphia, PA, 20 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a sister, Anna May Garner of Hollywood, MD, two sons-in-law, Bruce Wade of Lexington Park, MD and Ralph I. Butler, Jr. of Leonardtown, MD, a daughter-in-law, Sharon Bennett of Philadelphia, PA, a brother-in-law, Nelson Garner of Hollywood, MD and a sister-in-law, Lucille Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Marie Mills Bennett, whom he married on January 3, 1953, and a brother, Rhodie Bennett.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 1, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lexington Park, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Mike Dolan will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ernest Briscoe, Charles Kemit Miles, Stefan Miles, John Stewart, Rhodie Stewart and William Stewart.
