Claude Michael Boswell, Sr., 78, of Upper Marlboro, MD departed this life on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.
He was born on August 2, 1942 in Takoma Park, MD to the late, Claude William Boswell and Frances Virginia (Burch) Boswell.
Claude enlisted in the United States Army in November, 1962. A proud American, he was decorated for his accomplishments and received an honorable discharge.
Claude met the love of his life, Barbara in high school. A loving and happy couple, Claude and Barbara married in 1965. Their inspiring union welcomed four children, Claude, Jr., Elizabeth, Joseph, and Jennifer. Together they celebrated over forty-five (45) years of blissful marriage before Barbara’s passing in 2010. Claude treasured his years with his lovely bride and patiently waited to be reunited with her in heaven. Their children are finding solace in knowing they are together again.
A hard-working man, Claude’s first love was farming. However, he made a career with the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation, where he worked for almost 30 years. When his children were young, he ran a tobacco farm that taught the value of hard-work, patience and resilience. As they grew and the economy changed, he transitioned into farming soybeans and corn. He was happiest sitting in the cab of his combine harvesting his crops. A self-made man, he was the first to help a friend in need, his devote Catholic beliefs helped him lead a life of faith and honor. Claude enjoyed dancing and you would have found him at St. Mary’s Landing on a Sunday afternoon dancing to the live music. Claude’s joy for life flowed through his toe-tapping love of a great song, especially anything by Elvis Presley. Family was his greatest accomplishment and he loved every moment spent with his children, grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Whether you knew him as Claude Michael, Dad, Brother, Papa, Great-grandfather, or friend, you knew an exceptional and loving man. He will leave behind a legacy of strength, love and faith. Rejoice in the memories as he is dancing in heaven with his beloved Barbara and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Claude is survived by his children, Claude M. Boswell, Jr. of Upper Marlboro, MD, Elizabeth M. Watson (James, Jr.) of Brandywine, MD, Joseph D. Boswell (Charlene) of Crofton, MD, and Jennifer M. Boswell of Annapolis, MD; three grandchildren, Heather (Adrian) Alvarado, James Watson, III, and Cassidy Jo Boswell; and two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Michaela Alvarado.
