Dorothy Marie Burch, 85, of King George, Va., formerly of Charles County, died March 29, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Va. She was a retired school teacher at Higdon Elementary School. She was a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years and was an auxiliary member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4856 on the Eastern Shore. She was an active member of Dahlgren United Methodist Church, where she attended church. She was the daughter of the late, William R. Thornes and the late Willie Eleanor Russell Thornes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard A. Gauger and Ronald “Babe” Collinge; and brother, Brantley Thornes. She is survived by her husband, Joseph McQuillian Burch Jr.; daughters, Dorothy Marie Drummond-Ryan and Alberta Hickman; sons-in-law, Larry Ryan and Dan Hickman; grandchildren, Rhonda Dalmatoff, Teresa Sutton, Danna Revis and Kurt Hickman; and great-grandchildren, Jason Casebolt, Sara and Kelly Sutton, Jenna Dalmatoff, Emily and Russell Revis, and Karly and Noah Hickman. Services were held March 30 at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata, and graveside services were held March 31 at Liberty Cemetery, Parksley, Va., where burial took place. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. April 2 at Dahlgren United Methodist Church, Dahlgren, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to Dahlgren United Methodist Church, 17080 14th Street, Dahlgren, Va. 22448. Arrangements are being handled by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home.
