Douglas A. Fortin was born April 1, 1946 in Cooperstown, NY as the youngest of ten children. He passed in his home, in Bluemont, VA, surrounded by his family on March 28, 2018. His loving parents were Albert J. Fortin and Kathleen Ruth Fortin.ย 

Growing up in New York and Washington, DC and later in Southern Maryland. Fishing on the river, the bay or the ocean was his preferred pastime and he loved to teach his children and grandchildren to fish. Doug was an exceptional cook.ย  He loved to vegetable garden and to share the bounty with family and friends.ย  He called himself a jack of all trades and master of none. His family called him MacGyver, because he could fix just about anything with limited resources.ย  He loved to be outside working in the yard, on his tractor, mowing or fixing something that needed to be fixed.ย 

Doug met the love of his life Cindy in high school and they were married on May 17, 1968.ย  Together they raised a son and four daughters.ย  He was truly the kindest, most patient and loving husband and father anyone could hope for.ย 

Doug began studying the Bible in late 1972 and was baptized as one of Jehovahโ€™s Witnesses in September 1973.ย  Once he retired,ย  he became a pioneer to share Bible truths. He especially loved to visit and encourage the infirm and elderly.

Doug is survived by his wife Cindy, his son Andy and wife Erin, as well as his four daughters Jenifer, Stephanie and fiancรฉ Matt, Erika and husband Will, and Jessica and husband James.ย  Also by his six grandchildren, Darrion, McKenzie, Bryce, Kaila, Aria and Brendan and by his step granddaughters Co, Tay and Jaden. He is also survived by his brother Richard and 20 nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on April 7, 2018, at 1:30 pm, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahโ€™s Witnesses, 17104 Bridge View Ct, Paeonian Springs, VA 20129.
