Elizabeth “Bette” Davis Stump, 84, of Dunedin Florida passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Mechanicsville Maryland on October 19, 2015. Born February 25, 1931 to the late Harold Davis and Elizabeth Unzeitig, Bette was an only child and learned early to develop her independence and a love for many activities to fill her time.
Bette enjoyed many hobbies, all of which she did meticulously well. From an early age she enjoyed reading and had an extensive personal library that contained books for each of her hobbies; gardening, sewing, knitting, cooking, photography, and most importantly the Lord. Bette sewed beautifully and each member of her family was clothed in her creations all the way down to their Barbie dolls. Bette also knitted flawlessly, from socks to sweaters she never missed a stitch and each item was prepared with love. She embraced cooking with this same enthusiasm and leaves behind a legacy of recipes for her family to pass along.
Bette knew Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior and the greatest gift she bestowed upon her family was that love and the need for God in each of their lives. Through any obstacle she could be counted on to have the situation lifted up in prayer, that along with her unwavering strength provided her family with a strong sense of confidence and comfort.
Bette was blessed with a loving husband of 28 years, William Stump, with whom she traveled extensively and enjoyed being with until his last day.
She is survived by her children Lisa Anne Nelke of Catonsville MD, Jon Nelke (Lori) of Manahawkin NJ, and Jan Amelia Lidh (Martin) of Mechanicsville MD, seven grandchildren; Jessica, Chelsea, Heather, Marissa, Jacob, Dylan and Zoe and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one granddaughter Jenna who she is now with in Heaven. Additionally, Bette enjoyed two step daughters and many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
A private life celebration to honor Bette was held.
