Emmett Hamilton Barnes, Sr. 77, of Hollywood, MD died on December 10, 2004 at the St. Mary?s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD.

Born on June 5, 1927 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Thomas Louis Barnes and Lucy Lillian Mason ? Barnes.

Emmett received his formal education while attending Benjamin Banneker School in Loveville, MD. After finishing his schooling he started working with the federal government at Patuxent River Naval Base. His employment with the federal government was interrupted by his call to active duty. He served his country in the United States Army from March 27, 1946 until April 30, 1947 as a Guard Patrolman. After being honorably discharged he returned to his job with the federal government retiring after 39 years of service. He also spent many years working part time for the Old Laundromat in Leonardtown and delivering the local newspaper ?The Enterprise?.
In his early days he loved to hunt rabbits and other wild game. He also had a passion for fishing and crabbing that he shared with his cousins Harry and Walter Mason. His other hobbies included reading scriptures from the Bible and tending to his vegetable garden.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Agnes Hebb- Barnes whom he married on October 4, 1953, sons, William and wife Rosetta of Newport News, VA, Emmett of Roanoke Rapids, NC, James of Hollywood, MD and Francis of Parkersburg, WV, grandchildren, Marvin, Eric, Shawn, Shena, Jason, Monique, Myia, Ryan and Davarea, great grandsons, DaQuan and Christopher ?CJ?, many nieces, nephews cousins and friends and the First United Pentecostal Church of St. Mary?s, his church family that he spent many long tireless hours with. In addition to parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucy Barnes ? Matthews, brothers, Thomas and Richard Barnes, one sister, Catherine Silverine Barnes.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 from 10:00 until 11:00 am at the First United Pentecostal Church of St. Mary?s, Lexington Park, MD. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am with Pastor Jerald Staten officiating. Interment will follow at the Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD.

Pallbearers will be Marvin Lawrence, Shawn Barnes, Larry Fenwick, David Thomas, Maurice Robinson and Thomas Hebb. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Walter Neal, Harry Mason and Walter Mason.
