Erna K. Bachmeier , 78, of Murrells Inlet passed away Friday, November 14, 2008, at her residence with family at her side. Ms. Bachmeier was born in Mt. Ranier, MD daughter of the late Karl and Cacilia Bachmeier Arch. She is preceded in death by three sisters, Ida Weinelt, Estella Hibbs, and Dorothy Bachmeier, also her step-father, Anton Arch. Survivors include two sons, Andrew Newberg and wife Aida of Hughesville, MD and Gary Newberg and wife Joan of Waldorf, MD; three daughters, Alyce Gallagher and husband Bob of Phoenixville, PA, Kristina Schmitz and husband John of Murrells Inlet, SC and Lori Newberg and partner Daniel Haneiwich of San Francisco CA; one sister, Doris Riess and husband Ernie of Brandywine, MD; one granddaughter, Chanel Porter of Raleigh, NC and many nieces and nephews.
Erna K. served as a social worker in Charles County for nearly 30 years, touching thousands of lives in a positive, dignified way. Following retirement, she spent time as an avid reader and music lover, later traveling throughout the US and abroad.
Visitation will be at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home on Thursday, November 20, 2008, 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM, prayers at 7:00 PM. Funeral mass at St. Peter’s Church, Waldorf, MD at 11 AM, Friday, November 21, 2008; burial at St. Peter’s Church Cemetery following mass.
