Francis Joseph Worcester, 82, of La Plata died Jan. 29, 2004 at the Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, La Plata. Mr. Worcester worked for the Federal Govrement as a General Engineer for 28 years. He was a member of the US Professional Tennis Association. He was the Tennis Coach for Charles County Community College and St. Mary’s College and enjoyed photography and his grandchildren. Born August 24, 1921 in Middletown, New York, he was the son of the late James Blaine Worcester and the late Mary Louise Worcester. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ann Worcester. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Worcester and his wife, Cindy, of La Plata; daughters, Vonnie Worcester, of Washington, D.C. and Sandy Foster and her husband, Robert, of Bel Alton, MD; sister, Carolyn Van Decar and her husband, Philip of Royal Oak, MI; grandchildren, Greg, Rob, Kevin, Jennifer and Jessica. Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 1 from 2-5 p.m. with prayers at 4 p.m. at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata. Service will be held Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Ray Schmidt officated. Burial took place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery, La Plata. Memorial contributions may be made to Archbishop Neale School, 104 Port Tobacco Road, La Plata, MD 20646.
