Born on October 10, 1929 in Elizabeth City, NC, she was the daughter of the late John N. and Ruby Ioma Byrum Gray. She owned and operated the Shetland Acres Mobile Home Park.
She is survived by three children, Waverley H. Medley of Hollywood, MD, Beverly I. Smith of Sterling, VA, Joseph R. Matthews, Jr. of Valley Lee, MD, two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ryan ?Buster? Matthews, Sr., whom she married on October 9, 1944 in the Holy Face Catholic Church in Great Mills, MD, and a sister, Fannie Miller.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. in the Holy Face Cemetery in Great Mills, MD. The Reverend Joseph R. Sileo will conduct the service.
