
Hilda Maude Long Strickland, 96 of Jessup, MD, formerly of New Mexico, passed away on June 22, 2021 with her family by her side.
She was born on April 18, 1925 in California MD to the late Willard Biscoe Long and Bertie (Barefoot) Long.
Hilda married Mahartney Franklin Strickland on September 25, 1947. She and her husband were blessed to raise five children. They spent many wonderful years together before his passing in 1992. She was a compassionate woman who loved helping people which led her to become a nurse. She worked at North Arundel Hospital as a Registered Nurse for 12 years. She was a member of Ferndale United Methodist Church in Glen Burnie, MD. She was an excellent cook and made the most delicious meals. She and her husband traveled across the country visiting family and taking in the beautiful scenery of Colorado, New Mexico and Maine. After the passing of her husband she continued her adventures with her brother Edward and his wife Agnes to Europe and a cruise through the Panama Canal.
She is survived by her children, Phyllis E. Scible of Glen Burnie, MD, Carolyn S. Strickland of Jessup, MD,ย Bertie L. Schueler (Victor) of Glen Burnie, MD, and Joyce A. Bradley (Peter) of Las Cruces, NM; her sisters-in-law, Thelma Long and Carol Long; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her son, Mahartney F. Strickland, Jr.; her siblings Edward H. Long, Lois Long, Norma Croston, Phyllis Long, Willard B. Long, Jr., Charles V. Long, William F. Long and Margaret Myers.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery, 22340 Chancellors Run Road, Great Mills, MD 20634.
