Commander James Adair Newcomb (Retired), born July 23, 1928, flew his last flight on July 22, 2016, one day before his 88th birthday.
Cdr. Newcomb, known by all who knew him as โJimโ, was a pilot in the United States Navy for 32 years, bravely serving during the Korean and Viet Nam wars. He received several medals for heroism during his career, including the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Jim was well known for his generosity, loyalty, laughter, his love of sharing his huge store of knowledge and his ability to build and fix almost anything. He was born in Ventura, California to Fred and Ruth Newcomb. He married his high school sweetheart, Gwendolyn Mayhew, in 1956. They remained as much in love as when they married, throughout their sixty years. Gwen survives him, as well as their children, Alan Newcomb, Randy Newcomb, Laura Newcomb Cumberland, and Margaret Newcomb; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. James will always remain a hero to his family and loved by all who knew him.
His Life Celebration will be held on August 4, 2016, 10:00am to 11:00am for the Memorial Gathering with the Memorial Service at 11:00am at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.
