Joseph Henry Cullison, 90 of California, MD, passed away on January 20, 2021 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, MD.
He was born on August 11, 1930 in Park Hall, MD to the late James Henry Cullison and Ethel Trossbach Cullison.
Joe is a lifelong resident of St. Maryโs County. He served in the United States National Guard under the Army from 1947 to his Honorable Discharge in 1967.ย He was employed by the Department of Defense at Patuxent River Naval Air Station where he worked for over 30+ years of dedicated service. He started his career within the Public Works Department as a dispatcher until his retirement as Maintenance Superintendent. On October 3, 1953, he married his beloved wife, Margaret Trossbach Cullison at St. Michaelโs Catholic Church in Ridge, MD. Together they celebrated over 67 wonderful years of marriage.ย He and his wife enjoyed attending church dances, ice skating, and bowling.ย He grew bountiful gardens for many years and loved spending time on the water, crabbing, fishing and oystering. He loved spending time on the water with his son and grandsons.ย He was also a skilled carpenter and mason and built many family houses. He and his wife have traveled extensively across the United States and to many countries.ย He especially enjoyed his cruise to Alaska, and trips to Australia, Hawaii and Scandinavia. He was family oriented and loved spending time with his family.
He was a member of St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, the National Rifle Association, and NARFE.
In addition to his beloved wife, Margaret; Joe is also survived by his son, Anthony Joseph โTonyโ Cullison (Anna) of California, MD; his siblings: James H. Cullison, Jr. (Sharon) of St. Inigoes, MD, Dorothy Smith of Hagerstown, MD, Audrey Pratt of Ridge, MD and 3 grandsons: Daniel Budzenski (Brenda) of San Diego, CA, Christopher Cullison of Charlotte, NC and Jacob Cullison of California, MD. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son, Joseph Henry Cullison Jr., siblings, Agnes Bean, James F. โBillyโ Cullison and John Bernard โBernieโ Cullison.ย ย ย
A visitation will be held for the family on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated by Reverend Raymond Schmidt at 12:30 p.m. at St. Johnโs Francis Regis Catholic Church, 43950 St. John’s Road, Hollywood, Maryland 20636. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
